Why it matters who made the instrument
An instrument is a claim about reality. It says: this quantity has this value, to this uncertainty, under these conditions. A distributor can pass that claim along. Only the manufacturer can explain where it stops.
That is what the consultation on this site is for. Describe a measurement and the reply names the range, the method, and the conditions under which the number is trustworthy. It says so plainly when no instrument in the range covers it.
